INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State closed out its 2025 Acrobatics & Tumbling season on Thursday evening, falling to visiting West Liberty by a final score of 243.700-215.425 at the Walker Convocation Center. The Yellow Jackets wrap up the year at 2-6, 0-5 in the MEC and will not compete in next week's Mountain East Conference Championship meet.
WVSU showed early fight in the compulsory round, highlighted by a 9.15 in the pyramid heat, but ultimately trailed 35.50-28.00 after the opening event. The Yellow Jackets faced an uphill climb from there, struggling to match the Hilltoppers' execution in acro and tumbling events throughout the night.
West Liberty outscored State 26.10 to 21.25 in the acro event and edged WVSU 28.35 to 25.50 in the pyramid round. Toss and tumbling followed the same pattern, with West Liberty putting up 25.25 and 45.000, while the Yellow Jackets responded with 23.15 and 42.425, respectively.
In the team event, WVSU earned a 75.10 but the gap was already too wide to close. West Liberty posted a 243.700 overall behind steady performances across the board, while WVSU finished with 215.425 to conclude its campaign.
Despite the result, the Yellow Jackets showed resilience throughout the season and now turn their attention to offseason growth with aspirations of taking a step forward in 2026.
