BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — West Virginia State senior middle blocker
Nicole Gartner Custodio was named to the D2CCA First Team All-Atlantic Region today, adding another major honor to one of the most dominant seasons in Mountain East Conference history.
Gartner Custodio delivered an elite two-way campaign in 2025, finishing with 274 kills while hitting .362, leading the MEC in hitting percentage and ranking 30th nationally. Defensively, she posted 49 block solos and 124 block assists, totaling 173 blocks — the second-most in NCAA Division II — while her 1.59 blocks per set ranked third in the country. She led the MEC in both categories by a wide margin.
Her postseason résumé was already one of the strongest of any player in the region. Gartner Custodio earned First Team All-MEC honors, was selected to the MEC All-Tournament Team, and produced one of the most efficient single-match performances in MEC history on Oct. 24 against Salem. She recorded 15 kills on 17 swings, hitting .882, which set both the MEC and WVSU single-match hitting percentage records. The previous WVSU mark of .828 had stood since 2004, set by Blair Ruddle against WVU Tech.
A senior from Irati, Brazil, Gartner Custodio anchored State's front line and emerged as one of the premier middle blockers in all of Division II, leading the Yellow Jackets on both sides of the net throughout the season.
