ELKINS, W.Va. — West Virginia State University earned its sixth conference sweep of the season with a dominant 3–0 victory over Davis & Elkins (25–9, 25–18, 25–6) on Friday night at the McDonnell Center. The Yellow Jackets (14–11, 8–5 MEC) hit .300 as a team and committed just eight attack errors while holding the Senators (0–24, 0–13 MEC) to a negative hitting percentage.
Alyssa Hill led WVSU with 12 kills on .500 hitting and added two blocks. Carmen Perez contributed seven kills and a match-high four service aces, while
Nicole Gartner Custodio tallied five kills and three blocks. Setter Kelsey McKeehan distributed 14 assists, and libero
Lilly Adkins anchored the back row with 10 digs.
The Jackets out-hit the Senators .471 to .000 in the opening frame and maintained full control throughout, finishing with 35 kills to D&E's 19 while out-digging them 38–30 and holding a 7–2 advantage in aces.
The Yellow Jackets opened strong, jumping out to a 10–5 lead behind early kills from Perez and Hill. McKeehan directed an efficient offense that produced 17 kills with only one error (.471 hitting), while Davis & Elkins finished even in kills and errors at five apiece. Perez capped the set with an ace, and Custodio finished it off with a quick swing to give WVSU the 25–9 win.
Davis & Elkins battled early in set two, keeping the frame within a point at 7–6 before WVSU pieced together a 5–0 run behind Hill and Perez. The Senators posted 10 kills in their most competitive set, but Smith's steady serving and Custodio's timely net play halted their momentum. McKeehan found Hill and Lima da Conceicao late to stretch the margin, and the Jackets closed it 25–18.
State raced to a 6–0 start in the final frame on Carmen Perez's serve, fueled by back-to-back aces and two early scoring swings that pushed the margin immediately out of reach. Davis & Elkins broke through with two quick points, but the Jackets answered with a
Baylee Smith service run that stacked an ace and multiple D&E errors to make it 12–2. WVSU continued to pour it on behind
Lilly Adkins at the line with consecutive aces to extend the lead to 21–5. After
Kori Reckers put State on the cusp at 24–6, the match ended on an attack error by Kaylee Vanjo on
Daneya Morgan's serve, sealing the 25–6 set and a 3–0 sweep for State.
