BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Maureen Mathews earned this week's Mountain East Offensive Volleyball Player of the Week Award, presented by The Health Plan, the MEC office announced on Monday. Mathews earned the award after her impressive performance in last Friday's win over Wheeling in which she broke two school records and tied a third.

Mathews made a huge impact in West Virginia State's win against Wheeling in their lone match of the week on Friday, amassing 29 kills on 55 attack attempts with only four errors, hitting at a .455 clip. Her 29 kills tied the school record for most kills by an individual in a single match and set a new mark for most kills in a five-set match, breaking Jenna Dufresne's five-year-old mark of 26 kills in a single match.

West Virginia State will open up their conference home schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 1 when they take on the Concord Mountain Lions inside the Walker Convocation Center at 7:00 p.m.
