FROSTBURG, Md. – West Virginia State's men's and women's track and field teams recorded seven podium finishes at the MEC Outdoor Track & Field Championship which began on Sunday and wrapped up on Tuesday. The women's team picked up 55 points to place seventh at the meet while the men's team registered 45 points to finish eighth.

"I'll always remember this freshman team," remarked Head Coach John Boisette. "I challenged them to perform like upperclassmen, and they rose to the occasion. Despite facing adversity, we remained resilient. 

"I'm excited to further develop this program to compete at the highest level. Huge thanks to Nate for recognizing my dedication to track and field and entrusting me to revive this historic program."

Two Yellow Jackets stood atop the first-place block at the end of the meet. Zoe Mcdonald crossed the finish line first in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 14.41 seconds. Antiya McAlister won the women's 200-meter race with a personal record time of 24.70 seconds.

McAlister also stood on the podium for the women's 100-meter dash. She placed third with a time of 12.23 seconds. Teammate Candace Morris joined her on the podium by finishing second in the 100 meters. She bested her previous personal record by slingshotting over the finish line in 12.15 seconds.

The men's team also placed two of its athletes on the same podium. Leotis McNeil and Yadiel Rivera placed second and third, respectively, in the triple jump. McNeil jumped 13.82 meters while Rivera landed fractionally behind at 13.80 meters.

The men's 4x100 relay team recorded a season-best time of 41.34 seconds to place second in the race. Kaname Bryant, Jayden Smith, Caedon Trotter and Tyrell Brooks combined for the new benchmark time.
