INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University President Ericke S. Cage has promoted Athletic Director Nate Burton to the position of Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, effective May 4th.

"Over the past eight years, Nate has done a tremendous job growing our Yellow Jackets athletic programs, including increasing fundraising, upgrading athletic facilities, improving the academic performance of our student-athletes, increasing the competitiveness of our teams, and growing our sport offerings," stated President Cage. "He is also a national leader in the field of athletics and was recently selected to serve on the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association Board of Directors, where he will represent the Mountain East Conference, and the Division II Men's Basketball National Committee."

"I am truly honored and greatly appreciative of the confidence that President Cage has shown in me," remarked Burton. "I am looking forward to working with an exceptional senior leadership team that has placed West Virginia State University on an upward trajectory. I would not be in this position today without the support and successes of our staff, coaches and student-athletes."

While Burton's role in the university's proceedings will change with his promotion, his role as the head of the Athletics Department at West Virginia State will remain the same.
