BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Two Yellow Jackets earned all-conference nods from the Mountain East Conference for the 2023-24 season. Fifth-year forward Anthony Pittman was placed on the All-MEC First Team while junior forward Arthur Cox landed on the All-MEC Second Team.

Pittman was named MEC Player of the Week and HBCU National Player of the Week two times each this season. This was his fifth-consecutive season in which he earned all-conference honors and third time that he made the first team. He is currently the second-leading scorer (18.8 ppg) and rebounder (7.8 rpg) in the league. His field goal percentage (.494) is third-best in the MEC and his 2.3 steals per game is the highest average in the conference.

Cox was named MEC Player of the Week once this season. He is West Virginia State's second-leading scorer (12.8 ppg) and rebounder (5.4 rpg) going into the postseason. He scored 20 or more points on five occasions during the regular season. He posted a season-high 35 points at Davis & Elkins two weeks ago. This was Cox's debut season with the Yellow Jackets after transferring from Kirkwood Community College.

West Virginia State, as the No. 4 seed, will face Fairmont State, as the No. 5 seed, on Friday, March 8 at 8:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the MEC Tournament next. The Yellow Jackets were ranked ninth in the most recent Atlantic Region rankings before upsetting nationally-ranked No. 10 Charleston. WVSU will need to move up to seventh place in the Atlantic Region rankings or win the conference tournament to make the NCAA DII Tournament.
