Game one: WVSU 4, UVA Wise 3
Emele Clark led off the inning by legging out a grounder that was fumbled by the third baseman, and scored on Emma Pauley's single to right center field. Neither team scored in the second inning. A bases loaded hit-by-pitch and a bases loaded walk in the top of the third gave the Cavaliers the lead, 2-1. WVSU answered in the bottom half of the inning, via a pair of errors. Addi Dillow boarded on a misplayed grounder by the shortstop, then scored when Avery Contreras got aboard on a fielding error by the third baseman, 2-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kerigan Moore hit a sharp single to the shortstop that she legged out, then put herself in scoring position after stealing second. Clark came through with a single into center field that scored Moore and allowed State to regain the one run lead.
UVA tied the game up at three with a walk, double and single in the top of the sixth inning.
Moore singled to third base in the bottom half of the seventh, her second infield hit of the game, putting the winning run on. Clark then hit a soft grounder to third that she beat out, but the late throw was high and both runners advanced 60 feet. Two batters later, Thompson crushed a pitch into left center that sealed the game one walk-off.
Moore ended up 2-for-3 in game one with two runs scored. Clark was 2-for-4, boarding the base paths three times picking up an RBI and scoring a run. Thompson picked up the complete game victory, fanning four.
Game two: WVSU 5, UVA Wise 4
UVA Wise drew first blood in game two, scoring on an RBI groundout in the opening frame. State ripped three singles and took advantage of a strange play that had a missed tag on Kristabella Carte, and then a wild throw from the shortstop after the missed tag left all runners safe and the bases juiced for Moore. The left hander then ripped an opposite field hit that tip-toed the left foul line into left field to score Carte and even the game up.
It was all quiet for the next couple of innings, until the bottom of the fourth when Kaitlyn Cabral hit a come-backer up the middle for a base hit, then put herself in scoring position by stealing second base. Moore hit an RBI single then took second on the throw that was cut off by the pitcher when Cabral crossed the plate, 2-1.
Wise tied the game in the top of the sixth and neither team got much of anything going in the seventh, sending the game to extras and putting the tiebreaker rule into effect. A sac bunt and a throwing error immediately scored the placed runner for Wise, then an RBI double put the Cavaliers up by two, 4-2.
State would not be denied however. In the bottom of the eighth, Sydney Shamblin pinch ran for the designated player Thompson and then placed on second base per the tiebreaker rule. Emma Pauley hit a sharp single into center field, pushing Shamblin to third then scored on a wild pitch. Clarke Moore hit a single straight up the middle to score Pauley and re-tie the game, 4-4. A sac bunt later, Autumn Hall crushed a ball into left center field that was mere inches from clearing the fence, walking off the second straight game for the Yellow Jackets when Moore scored.
Hall went 3-for-4 in the game, and her only RBI of the game was on the walk off double. She also pitched the complete game victory, only allowing two earned runs. Pauley was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Moore went 2-for-3 with two RBI's. WVSU accumulated 12 hits as a team.
