BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- West Virginia State baseball's
Connor Fizer (Charleston, W.Va./St. Albans) was named the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, for his outstanding performance in this past weekend's games.
Fizer scored the first run in a 5-2 win over Malone after being hit by a pitch. In the second game of the doubleheader, he hit a two-run homerun that accounted for the game-winning run. The Yellow Jackets went on to win by a final score of 6-3 to sweep the Pioneers.
He hit his second homerun of the week on Sunday against Salem. He went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a homerun, three runs batted in and a run scored.Â
Fizer was flawless in the field during the entire weekend. On seven chances, he made one putout and six assists. He also turned a double play from his position at third base.
Fizer is currently the only player in the MEC with more than one goner this season.Â
