Two WVSU sprinters come out on top at the Marshall Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia State men's and women's track and field teams strung together some impressive performances at the Marshall Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Both Kaname Bryant and Candace Morris placed first in the finals of the men's and women's 60 meter dash with times of 6.91 and 7.59 seconds respectively.

Bryant finished second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.20 seconds. He was just 0.05 seconds behind the winner from West Virginia Wesleyan. State's Jayden Smith finished third in the 200m with a time of 22.32 seconds.

The Yellow Jackets placed second in the men's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:27.59. Marshall was the only team that was faster. 

In men's field events, Tariq Murray finished second in the long jump with a distance of 6.30 meters. He was only 0.45 meters short of the winner from Carnegie Mellon. Robert Salhab placed fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 15.86 meters.

In women's field events, Victoria Colon finished third in the shot put with a launch of 10.29 meters.

WVSU will head back to Huntington for the MEC Indoor Championship on Friday, Feb. 16 and Saturday, Feb. 17 next.
