BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Sandra Linares and
Laura Galindo each earned Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honors, presented by the Health Plan, for their stand-out performance this week in both of West Virginia State's victories. Linares earned her first Offensive Player fo the Week award, while Galindo earned her second defensive nod of the year, fourth of her career.
Linares pocketed three of the Yellow Jackets' four goals this week. She scored both goals in the 2-1 victory against Wheeling and scored the insurance goal against Fairmont State. She only took five shots in goal combined in the two games, scoring on 60% of her shots on target.
On the defensive side, Galindo won both of her games this week, a 2-1 victory over Wheeling in which she made three saves while facing nine shots, one of which was a point blank shot that helped preserve a 1-1 tie score at the time with under 24 minutes to play. Then, against Fairmont State she picked up her first career assist when she punted the ball down the field to an open
Avril Amil Ruiz who crossed to
Sandra Linares for the insurance goal in a 2-0 victory against Fairmont State. Galindo made all four of her saves in the shutout victory against the number two team in the North.
West Virginia State hosts Point Park on Wednesday, Oct. 9 for a 6 p.m. tilt at Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium.
