Eighty-five Yellow Jackets receive academic honors from the MEC

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Mountain East Conference released its Academic All-MEC Teams and the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall 2023 semester today. The list includes sports that conducted their championship in the fall (football, men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, volleyball, women's cross country, women's golf and women's soccer). West Virginia State placed 85 of its student-athletes on the list.

To be a member of the Academic All-MEC Team, the student-athlete must be a member of the active roster and have a grade-point average of 3.70-4.00 in the semester of their championship season. To qualify for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a member of the active roster and post a grade-point average between 3.25-3.69 in the semester of their championship season.

West Virginia State's football team placed 13 of its student-athletes on the Academic All-MEC team and another 15 student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. 

Men's Cross Country landed five student-athletes on the Academic All-MEC team and an additional six on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. 

Men's Golf added three student-athletes to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. 

Volleyball placed 10 of its student-athletes on the Academic All-MEC team while adding another eight to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. 

Women's Cross Country landed four student-athletes on the Academic All-MEC team and an additional three student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Women's Soccer had 14 of its student-athletes make the Academic All-MEC team and four make the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

In total, 46 of West Virginia State's student-athletes made the cut for the Academic All-MEC Teams while 39 Yellow Jackets were placed on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.   

A total of 1,255 student-athletes were recognized by the MEC, with more than half that earned Academic All-MEC honors (3.70 or higher) in their respective sports.
