BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Virginia State kicker and punter Brennen Schmitt was named the Mountain East Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, on Monday afternoon. Schmitt played a pivotal role in the Yellow Jackets' win over UNC Pembroke on Thursday night.

Schmitt made 3-of-3 field goals from distances of 20, 26 and 30 yards and converted 4-of-4 point after tries. The 13 points he was responsible for turned out to be critical with the two-point margin of victory, 37-35. He also helped out in the field position battle with his three punts, two of which went for touchbacks and one that landed inside the 20 yard line.

Schmitt has made 13-of-14 field goals in his career with his one miss being blocked.
