BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The No. 20 West Virginia State University women's basketball team placed three of its players on the 2023 All-Mountain East Conference teams when the awards were announced on Friday evening. Senior forward Anysa Jordan was named to the All-MEC First Team while senior guard Shelby Harmeyer and senior forward Destiny Fields both made the All-MEC Second Team.

Jordan earned All-MEC First Team honors after ranking in the Top 10 in the league in rebounding (7.1 rpg) and field goal percentage (.462). She led the Yellow Jackets in scoring this season with 13.7 points per game while hustling back to the other end of the court to grab over 100 defensive rebounds going into the postseason. Her season-highs included 29 points versus Notre Dame College and 16 rebounds at Bluefield State.

Harmeyer received all-conference recognition for the first time in her career after averaging 12.0 points per game. She was one of the league's most prolific three-point shooters this season. Her 35.4 three-point field goal percentage was sixth-best in the MEC and her 73 three-point field goals made was the fifth-highest total.

Fields was placed on the All-MEC Second Team for the third-straight season. She reached both 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in her career this season by averaging 13.4 points per game and 6.8 boards per game. Her season-highs included 31 points at Frostburg State and 16 rebounds versus West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Yellow Jackets will have a chance to make history when they play in the quarterfinals of the Mountain East Conference Tournament on Thursday, March 2 next. A victory would break the school record for wins in a season.
