Jacklyn Simms earns second Player of the Week nod by the MEC

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Jacklyn Simms became the second Yellow Jacket volleyball player to earn a second Mountain East Conference Player of the Week award, presented by The Health Plan. Simms's offensive volleyball award comes after she set three new season highs, helping WVSU to two more season sweeps against MEC opposition.

Simms set three season highs this week: points (21), digs (15), and aces (6). She had 11 kills in the win against Davis & Elkins and 15 kills against Glenville St. Simms continues to hit well for the Yellow Jackets, she hit .462 against Glenville St. and .316 against Davis & Elkins, bumping her season hitting percentage to .295 which puts her seventh overall in the Mountain East. In addition, she had 26 digs in the week, eight total service aces and a block.

West Virginia State continues to lead the conference in most statistical categories including points per set (18.01), opponent hitting percentage (.124), hitting percentage (.271), opponent kills per set (10.16), and opponent assists per set (9.15). The Yellow Jackets are also ranked eighth in NCAA Division II in hitting percentage and 11th in opponent hitting.

WVSU heads to West Virginia Wesleyan on Monday then plays their regular season finale on Thursday against Charleston.
