11/20/2023 8:00:00 PM

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- The West Virginia State volleyball team qualified for the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship for the fourth time in program history and the second time in three years. The Yellow Jackets earned the No. 6 seed in the Atlantic Region and will open the tournament against the No. 3-seeded Clarion Golden Eagles.

The 2023 NCAA DII Atlantic Regional will be hosted by top-seeded Gannon and held at the Hammermill Center in Erie from Nov. 30-Dec. 2.

The Golden Eagles and Yellow Jackets have met just four times since 2009, with the most recent match coming a decade ago. Clarion won all four meetings in that time span, with all four coming on neutral floors.

Clarion posted a 25-6 overall record and a 13-3 record in the PSAC this season. The Golden Eagles advanced to their conference championship game, but fell to Gannon in five sets. Meanwhile, West Virginia State holds a 26-5 overall record and a 14-1 in-conference record going into the NCAA Tournament. The Yellow Jackets also advanced to their conference championship game, but were defeated by Wheeling in four sets.

More information regarding next week's tournament matches, including the exact date and time, will be added to WVSU volleyball's schedule page as it becomes available.
