BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Graduate forward Fran Soares-Cuperino of the West Virginia State University women's soccer team was named the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Offensive Player of the Week, presented by the Health Plan, after tallying four goals and four assists in two games played. This was the fourth time in her WVSU career, and second time this season, that she earned Offensive Player of the Week honors from the MEC.
Soares-Cupertino scored twice and assisted on four more goals in a 9-3 thrashing of Davis & Elkins on Wednesday. She scored the second goal to tie it in the 12th minute and also scored the last goal of the game to set the school record for team goals scored in a single game. Her four assists broke the school record for assists by an individual in a single game.
Soares-Cupertino then scored two more goals, including the game winner, in a 2-1 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. Her game-winning goal kept West Virginia State's unbeaten and untied streak alive through six games. She is currently ranked fourth in all of NCAA Division II with nine goals on the season.
