BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fifth-year forward
Fran Soares-Cupertino of the West Virginia State University women's soccer team was dubbed the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Offensive Player of the Week for her two-goal effort in a 3-1 win over UINDY on Sunday afternoon. This was the third time in her WVSU career that she earned Offensive Player of the Week honors from the MEC.
Soares-Cupertino netted the first goal of the game in the fourth minute with a free kick from 30 yards out. She then added her second goal in the 61st minute with a header after a shot from distance rebounded off the crossbar. Her second goal gave the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 lead over the Greyhounds.
Soares-Cupertino made the most of her four shots during her 90 minutes on the pitch. Three of her shots were on target and two found the mark.
