LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The West Virginia State University volleyball team earned the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in partnership with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) for the third consecutive season this year. The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of at least a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
"Academic achievement does not happen by accident," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "I'm so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority."
The WVSU volleyball team earned a 3.42 GPA in the fall and followed it up with a 3.55 GPA in the spring to comfortably clear the threshold for the AVCA Team Academic Award for the third straight year. West Virginia State was among 1,208 collegiate and high school teams that hit the mark this year.
