INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State University student-athletes posted a 3.06 cumulative grade point average for the spring 2022 semester. This marked the eighth consecutive semester that WVSU student-athletes combined for a collective 3.0 GPA or higher.
"Our student-athletes, coaches and staff have embraced the culture of academic excellence at WVSU," said WVSU Athletic Director
Nate Burton. "We are proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes and I want to thank the faculty, staff and administrators who have supported them in reaching their goals."Â
A total of 245 student-athletes across 10 varsity sports finished the academic year strong to keep West Virginia State's streak of academic success going. On the women's side, the tennis team led the way with a 3.93 GPA after 5-of-8 players earned straight A's. The baseball team topped the chart on the men's side with a 3.3 GPA , including 30-of-39 players achieving a 3.0 GPA or better.
West Virginia State's teams also excelled athletically this year with a combined 103-58-1 conference record, or .636 winning percentage. An astonishing 8-of-10 teams completed their seasons with winning records in the Mountain East Conference.
