BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Three West Virginia State University baseball players were named All-Mountain East Conference when the league released its annual list on Wednesday afternoon. Graduate student Andrew Stone earned First Team All-MEC status, sophomore Chase Norris garnered Second Team All-MEC honors, and freshman Nathan Paulsen received an All-MEC Honorable Mention.

Second baseman Andrew Stone was placed on the first team for the first time in his fifth year at WVSU. He was given an honorable mention by the conference last year and made the second team in 2019 and 2018. He was named Second Team All-Region in 2021 and was the MEC Freshman of the Year in 2018. In his final season as a Yellow Jacket, he led West Virginia State in on-base plus slugging (1.111), runs (49), doubles (14), triples (4), slugging percentage (.565), bases on balls (45) and stolen bases (17). His .546 on-base percentage was not only the best on the team but also the best mark in the MEC. Furthermore, Stone had the lowest number of strikeouts (20) among WVSU starters and did not ground into a double play all season long.

Pitcher Chase Norris worked his way into the starting rotation in his second year at West Virginia State and earned second team honors in the process. He recorded a team-high 46 strikeouts in 42.1 innings pitched. Opposing batters hit .238 off Norris, the lowest average among WVSU starters, and his 3.83 earned run average was the only sub-4.00 ERA posted by a starter on the West Virginia State pitching staff this year.

Center fielder Nathan Paulsen made the honorable mention shortlist after becoming a day one starter in his first year with the Yellow Jackets. He led West Virginia State in homeruns (4) and triples (4) and was second-best on the squad in runs batted in (33) and total bases (74). Paulsen posted a .296 batting average with the most at bats (159) on the team after starting all 45 games played this season.
