Baseball Falls Monday at Notre Dame College

SOUTH EUCLID, OHIO— West Virginia State Baseball fell Monday in a pair of contests against Mountain East Conference foes Notre Dame College, dropping Game 1 7-2 and falling in the nightcap 6-3 at Mercy Health Stadium.

State slips to 8-6 on the season and 2-2 in MEC action, while NDC improves to 6-13 and also 2-2 in the league.

GAME 1: WVSU 2, NOTRE DAME COLLEGE 7
A sacrifice fly in the opening frame put the Falcons on board for a lead they never relinquished, scoring another three runs in the third and adding two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

State broke the blank in the fourth inning, as sophomore Ryan Kay doubled home shortstop Brett Christian, who led off the frame with a walk. It was Kay's second two-bagger in as many at bats.

The yellow Jackets plated their second run of the day in the sixth, as Andrew Stone roped a one-out double to left center and came home on another double, this one coming from junior Trey junkins.

Graduate student Andrew Sharp also tallied two hits on the day, while junior Nick Loftis took the loss.

GAME 2: WVSU 3, NDC 6
NDC started the second game in similar fashion, scoring in their first time to the plate courtesy of a triple and a groundout. The lead was short-lived, as State tied the contest their next at bat and took the lead, 2-1.

Christian worked another walk and advanced to third on a single to centerfield from Kay. Catcher Dylan Ball brought Christian home, and Kay then scored after a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to freshman Nathan Paulsen. The Yellow Jackets looked poised to threaten some more in the inning, but alas left the bases loaded after a fly out to right field.

The Falcons regained the lead in the third, plating five runs off four hits and a WVSU miscue to take a 6-2 lead.

State plated another run in the sixth, as Christian led off the inning with a double, advanced on a wild pitch and came home on a fielders' choice.

Kay added another two hits in the finale, joining senior Michael Stone. Christian scored twice
