Baseball Opens MEC Play At Alderson Broaddus and Notre Dame College

PHILIPPI, W.VA. – West Virginia State Baseball opens their 2022 conference season Sunday, facing Alderson Broaddus in a doubleheader to begin Mountain East Conference action at 1 and 3:30 p.m.

State will continue with their roadtrip, taking on Notre Dame College in a pair of Monday matinees, also slated for 1 and 3:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available for all four games. 

The Yellow Jackets enter the weekend on a 6-4 ledger, having won their midweek matchup against Lincoln Memorial, 3-2. 

IN THEIR LAST OUTING
Graduate student Matthew Kline slugged a double and a triple in the victory over LMU, with freshman Nathan Paulsen also cranking out two hits on the afternoon. In the eighth, Paulsen tripled and then came home on a two-bagger from Kline. 

Senior Foster Conis picked up his second save of the season in the contest, while junior Nick Loftis registered the win in an inning of scoreless relief where he faced his minimum. 

SCOUTING THE BATTLERS
Alderson Broaddus enters Sunday winless on the year at 0-12 and were trailing in their nightcap against Charleston. The Battlers are led by freshman Derek Marinucci's .333 average. AB has struggled a bit offensively, hitting at a team clip of .187 and boasts a team ERA of 11.91,

State swept AB last season, beating the Battlers 4-1 and 2-1 at Cal Bailey Field. 

SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Notre Dame begins their MEC slate Sunday, hosting Charleston in a pair of contests. They enter the day at 4-11, having dropped three of their last four games. 

The Falcons are hitting as a team at .233, and led by senior Kyle Espineli at .333 with a .500 slugging percentage. 

On the mound, the Falcons carry a team ERA of 7.69 and carry a trio of relievers with a sub 3.00 ERA. 

The Yellow Jackets defeated the Falcons in both games last season, downing NDC 6-3 and 7-3 in Institute.
