Two Yellow Jackets Earn Second Team All-MEC Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Two West Virginia State University women's basketball players were named to the 2022 All-MEC Second Team when the annual awards were announced by the Mountain East Conference league offices on Monday. Senior guard Charity Shears and junior forward Destiny Fields were both named second team all-conference for the second consecutive season.

Shears was West Virginia State's leading scorer this season with 322 points and an 11.9 points per game average. She made the second-most three point field goals and steals on the team with 55 and 43, respectively. She also made more free throws than any other player on the squad with 73 shots from the charity stripe falling at an 82 percent rate.

Fields ended the regular season with the second-best scoring and rebounding averages on the team. She averaged 10.8 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game. She made more shots from the field than any other Yellow Jacket with 104 dropping through the net at a 42.4 percent rate.

The All-MEC teams are selected by a vote of the league's coaches.
