BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Virginia State men's basketball's Malik Whitaker was named the Mountain East Conference's Player of the Week when the league announced awards on Monday afternoon. He averaged 19.0 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game in wins over Frostburg, 100-85, and Fairmont, 101-99 (OT), last week to help the No. 25 Yellow Jackets remain unbeaten.

Whitaker led all players in scoring at Frostburg with a season-high 26 points. He shot 11-of-16 (69 percent) from the floor, dished out three assists, and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to lead his team to victory.

Whitaker then came up with a game-high 11 boards again versus Fairmont to go along with 12 points for his fourth double-double of the season. He also added five assists to his weekly total and swatted away three blocks.

Whitaker is currently ranked fifth in the nation in double-doubles while averaging a team-leading 16.0 ppg and a league-leading 10.3 rpg.
