BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference released its 2022 Volleyball All-Conference selections on Wednesday afternoon. Five Yellow Jackets made the cut, including juniors Kiersten Eggleton and Diamond'Nique Young on the All-MEC First Team.

Eggleton earned All-MEC First Team honors for the first time in her career after receiving an honorable mention from the league a season ago. She showed her versatility this season by contributing both offensively and defensively in every match she played. Eggleton is currently ranked third in the nation in triple-doubles with five on the year. Offensively, she led West Virginia State in service aces with 51 while racking up the second-most kills (240) and assists (478) on the squad. Defensively, she registered the third-most digs (268) and blocks (63) on the team.

In her first year at WVSU, Young was named to the All-MEC First Team after transferring from CSU-Pueblo. From her middle hitter position, Young led the league and was ranked seventh in the country with a .406 hitting percentage. She racked up a team-best 372.5 points with 313 kills and 96 total blocks, including 23 solo blocks.

Receiving All-MEC Honorable Mentions were fifth-year middle blocker Grace Martin, junior outside hitter Alex Darby, and sophomore libero Ashlynne Davis. Martin recorded her second-straight season with 100 or more blocks in her final year on the squad. She led WVSU with 103 total blocks, including 21 solo blocks, and was ranked seventh in the conference.

Darby gave up the libero shirt this season to serve in an outside hitter role while remaining a defensive specialist in the rotation. She led the Yellow Jackets in digs for a third-consecutive year with 359 to her name while providing 199 kills to aid the attack. Meanwhile, Davis stepped up as the team's full-time libero in only her second year and averaged a team-leading 3.87 digs per set with an impressive .958 reception percentage.

West Virginia State is scheduled to play West Liberty in the quarterfinals of the MEC Tournament tomorrow at noon. The high-stakes match will be hosted by Charleston. In the latest NCAA Atlantic Region rankings, the Yellow Jackets were ranked ninth while the Hilltoppers were ranked eighth in the region. A win for either side may ensure a place in the 2022 NCAA Division II Championship.
