GREENVILLE, S.C. – West Virginia State women's soccer's Fran Soares-Cupertino was named a Second Team All-American by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) when the organization announced the awards on Wednesday afternoon. She becomes the first All-American in school history and was the only player representing the Mountain East Conference (MEC) this year.

Soares-Cupertino was also the only player from the Atlantic Region to be named an All-American aside from players representing National Championship-contending West Chester. She became the first Yellow Jacket to be named D2CCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year and MEC Offensive Player of the Year this season before garnering All-American honors. She is a two-time all-conference selection as well as a two-time all-region honoree in two seasons played at West Virginia State.

The graduate forward from Belo Horizonte, Brazil departs the WVSU women's soccer program as its all-time leader in both goals and points. Soares-Cupertino scored 31 goals and added 12 assists to register 74 points over the past two years. She was the nation's top goal scorer at one point during the 2022 season and also ranked in the top five in points (https://www.ncaa.com/news/soccer-women/article/2022-11-03/5-top-point-scorers-dii-womens-soccer-season-so-far).
