INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University's student-athletes continued their streak of academic success by combing for a 3.15 grade point average during the fall 2021 semester. The collective 3.15 GPA recorded this term meant that WVSU student-athletes have posted a 3.1 GPA or better for seven consecutive semesters. Furthermore, a record-setting 180 student-athletes (64 percent) earned a 3.0 GPA or higher this term.
The most improved teams from the spring term were women's tennis, moving up from a 3.5 to a 3.9, and men's basketball, upgrading from a 2.4 to a 2.8 GPA. The women's tennis team also achieved the highest grade point average of all sports this semester. The softball program was a close second with a 3.6 team GPA. On the men's side, the baseball program led the way with a 3.2 average.
The mission of WVSU Athletics is to continually enhance the student-athlete experience by providing the greatest opportunities to excel both academically and athletically. Once again, the mission of WVSU Athletics was fulfilled through the combined academic achievements of the ten varsity sport programs offered at West Virginia State University.
