SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- West Virginia State Baseball's Matthew Kline and Ethan Lauchart were recognized by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for their respective performances at the 2021 MEC Baseball Tournament. Kline was named Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week while Lauchart earned Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week honors from the NCBWA.

Kline posted a .333 batting average and either scored a run or drove in a run in all five games played in the tournament. He hit two doubles and one homerun while driving in eight runs and scoring five runs himself.

Lauchart had a shaky start in the first game of the tournament, but made up for it by tossing eight scoreless innings on Championship Sunday. He earned a save for his three innings pitched at the end of the first game against Concord and then started the next game in which he threw a one-hitter through five innings. He totaled 11 strikeouts in 12.1 innings pitched.
