BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Two West Virginia State University women's basketball players were named to the 2021 All-MEC Second Team when the annual awards were announced by the Mountain East Conference league offices on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore forward Destiny Fields earned all-conference honors for the first time while junior guard Charity Shears was recognized by the league for the second time after being named an honorable mention last season.

Fields ranked 11th in the MEC in scoring average with 13.9 points per game and 10th in rebounding with 7.3 rebounds per game. She also finished tied for sixth in the league in field goal percentage (.517) and tied for third in steals with 33.

Shears was the second-best scorer for the Yellow Jackets with 13.0 points per game. Her 37 three-point field goals was the sixth-highest total in the MEC. She eclipsed West Virginia State's record for career three-point field goals made in 2021 and now has over 1,000 points to her name.
