Dufresne Becomes First All-American Volleyball Player at State

12/8/2021 2:52:00 PM

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Senior outside hitter Jenna Dufresne was named a Second Team All-American by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) on Wednesday afternoon. Dufresne became the first player in the history of the volleyball program at West Virginia State University to earn All-American honors when she was named to the Second Team.

Dufresne was also the first player in program history to be dubbed Atlantic Region Player of the Year by the D2CCA. She also made the All-Atlantic Region First Team this year and was designated the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. She was voted to the All-MEC First Team in three of her four years at WVSU. She was on the All-MEC Honorable Mention shortlist and All-MEC Freshman Team in her first year on the team.

In her four years at State, Dufresne was a starter on squads that racked up a total of 86 wins. She helped her team to a quarterfinal appearance in the MEC Championship during her freshman year, semifinal appearances during her sophomore and junior seasons, and an appearance in the final during her senior season. She won two MEC South Division titles in the spring and fall of 2021 and played in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament this season. It was the first time since 2008 that the Yellow Jackets made the NCAA Tournament and they advanced to the Round of 32 for the first time ever with a school record 30th win.

Dufresne's impressive accolades received this year came after she posted 473 kills with a .308 hitting percentage, 267 digs, 49 total blocks, and 514 points in 34 matches and 111 sets played. Her 3.43 kills per set and 3.57 points per set were both the best averages in the MEC this season. In her four-year career, she registered over 1,300 kills and 1,500 points. In program history, she is ranked second all-time in kills, third all-time in attack attempts, and second all-time in points. She holds the school records for kills in a game with 29, which she set twice, and kills in a season with 473, which she set this year.
