BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference league offices released their annual all-conference awards for women's soccer on Tuesday afternoon. Three Yellow Jackets were named Second Team All-MEC including senior midfielder
Brooklyn Pritt, senior forward
Fran Soares-Cupertino, and junior midfielder
Naomi Waithira.
Pritt led the team with six assists, including two assists in a 4-3 loss against Davis and Elkins on Oct. 24.
. Her 0.4 assists per game was good enough for fourth place in the conference rankings and her assists total was the fifth-best mark in the MEC. She also tacked on three goals on 48 shot attempts.
Soares-Cupertino cracked the top three in the conference for multiple statistical categories. Her four game-winning goals was third-best, her 0.81 goals per game average placed her second in the conference and 20th in all of NCAA Division II, and her 1.75 points per game was third-highest in the MEC. She scored 13 goals this season which was the second highest total in the conference and ranked her 14th in the nation. She was also third in the conference in total points with 28 on the season.
Waithira
played 14 matches this season and scored three goals to go along with three assists. All three of her goals were game-winning goals. She ranked third on the team for goals, was tied for second on the team for assists, and placed third on the team for total shots taken with 20 throughout the year. This was her second consecutive season being designated Second Team All-MEC.
The Yellow Jackets will make their first-ever postseason appearance when they take on Charleston for a MEC Tournament quarterfinals match tonight. The game will be played at the Welch Athletic Complex with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
