INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Yellow Jacket's women's soccer team was defeated by the University of Charleston Golden Eagles by a final tally of 9-1 on senior night at Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium.
WVSU slips to 11-6-1, 10-5-1 in the Mountain East Conference. UC improves to 14-4, 13-3 in the MEC.
Before the regular season finale began, WVSU honored four seniors who will year the Yellow Jacket uniform for the final time on the turf of Lakin-Ray Field. Seniors

Chelsea Black were recognized prior to the match.
With the MEC Tournament starting on Tuesday, head coach
Lisa Mann elected to place all of the regular starters on the inactive list for today, instead starting
Sinead Samarczuk, Contreras, Maiguel,
Zoey McCutcheon,
Zoe Runyon,
Colby Agnor, Barbosa,
Lauren Johnson, Black,
Macey LeVasseur, and goalkeeper
Ashley Craigo.
The Golden Eagle starters scored seven goals in the first half: Katy O'Reilly in the sixth minute, Sydney Cavender in the 12
th minute, two by Madison Hansen in the 17
th minute, Kate Eddy in the 22
nd minute, Laura Vierhout in the 29
th minute, and Kaylee Hensley in the 35
th minute.
UC put their reserves into the match in the second half and they tacked on two more: Bayley Meade in the 53
rd minute and Madison Spears rounded out the scoring in the 55
th minute.
The Yellow Jackets finally broke onto the scoresheet in the 64
th minute when Black served up a high arcing pass to
Ammy Mwasambua who chipped it over the head of the UC netminder Carol Burgess.
Forty-two fouls were called between the two teams with WVSU responsible for 25 of them. WVSU also had five players issued cautions. Contreras was issued a second one in the 88
th minute and then given her marching orders.
Contreras had the only other shot on goal for the Yellow Jackets. Goalkeepers
Olivia Bird played 34:24 and allowed two goals. Craigo played 45 minutes, allowed seven goals and made six saves.
Alyssa Deck entered in the 79
th minute and made four saves, including a penalty kick and rebound from the penalty save.
UC's Spears took four shots on goal and scored once. Lotte Bovy, Keira Hill, O'Reilly, and Vierhout all took three shots. Hill also had two assists.
The Yellow Jackets and Golden Eagles will match up again on Tuesday, Nov. 9 in the rubber match and the quarter-finals of the MEC tournament. That match will be played on the UC campus and will kick-off at 5 pm. The match will be streamed live at mountaineast.tv and live stats will be available.
