INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Homecoming at West Virginia State University is a tradition like no other. This year marks a special occasion with much anticipated artificial turf and stadium lighting being unveiled prior to the first-ever night game being played on campus. The West Virginia State football team will host UNC Pembroke on Saturday, Oct. 16th at 6 p.m. under the lights of the newly turfed
Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium.
Ticket Information
Tickets will be sold at the gates. The cost of tickets is $12 each (cash only) except for faculty, staff, and students who will be admitted at no charge with the presentation of a valid WVSU ID.
Spectator Policy
There is no limit to capacity. The general public and visiting fans will be permitted. Masks and social distancing are encouraged but not required.
Parking/Tailgating/Concessions
Parking will be available free of charge on campus. Campus police will be on site to direct traffic. Tailgating prior to kickoff is encouraged. Alcohol is permitted outside of the confines of Dickerson Stadium and tobacco products may be consumed in designated smoking areas. Food vendors will have tents set up outside the stadium and food trucks will be parked adjacent to the home stand inside the stadium.
Pregame Dedication Ceremony
Members of the media are invited to a dedication ceremony to be held at 5 p.m. at the entrance to Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium. Athletic Director
Nate Burton, Interim President Ericke S. Cage, representatives from state and national foundations along with the Kanawha County Commission will all partake in the ceremony. Fans will be permitted to enter the stadium at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Media Information
All members of the media are encouraged to attend the field dedication ceremony at 5 p.m. and stay to cover the game. Field access will be granted without restriction to media members. Credentials are not required. To request access to the press box, please contact

West Virginia State (3-3, 3-2 MEC) and UNC Pembroke (3-3, 3-2 MEC) are currently in a five-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings ... the two teams met in the spring with the Braves winning 48-21 ... WVSU has not turned the ball over in either of the last two games (both wins) ... the Yellow Jacket defense has surrendered just 16 points in the last two games ... WVSU's
Malik Newton is fourth in the league in rushing with 535 yards (89.2 ypg) ...
Donovan Riddick has accounted for 11 touchdowns this year -- third-most in the MEC ... UNCP snapped a two-game losing streak last week with a home win over Wheeling ... the Braves had four interceptions ... UNCP has yet to run for over 100 yards in a game this year ...
