URBANA, Ohio – The West Virginia State University men's basketball team made the long journey to Urbana on Wednesday night and was edged in overtime, 90-87.

West Virginia State drops to 17-7 overall, 12-7 in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) with the defeat. Meanwhile, Urbana jumps to 6-19 on the season and 5-14 in the MEC with the victory.

Junior forward Jeremiah Moore led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 18 points while fellow junior Glen Abram was next best with 16 points. Both Frank Agyemang and Michal Seals recorded 14 points. Freshman forward Anthony Pittman made it five Yellow Jackets to score in double-digits with 12 points. He added 12 rebounds to register his fifth double-double of the season.

The Yellow Jackets were contentedly in control for the majority of the first half. With a dunk from James Hagins and a follow-up three-pointer from Treohn Watkins, West Virginia State took an eight-point lead, 23-15, around the 10-minute mark.

Urbana got hot from behind the arc in the closing ten minutes of the first half. The Blue Knights knocked down five shots from three-point range and made a last-second layup to close the gap to one point, 37-36, at the halftime buzzer.

Urbana carried its momentum over to the second half and went on a 12-3 run in the first three minutes. West Virginia State then one-upped the Blue Knights with a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to regain the lead, 52-50.

The rest of regulation was neck-and-neck between the two sides. Glen Abram drained a three-pointer with about two minutes left to play to give WVSU a two-possession advantage, 75-71. Urbana responded with two big buckets in the final minute of the second half that sent the game into overtime (76-76).

In overtime, the two teams matched shots up until the last minute. Urbana made a layup that gave them a four-point edge, 87-83, with 42 ticks left on the clock. The Blue Knights managed to stay one shot ahead of the Yellow Jackets for the remainder of extra time.

Urbana made the most out of its 19 offensive rebounds with 26 second chance points. In comparison, West Virginia State made nine second chance points off 13 offensive boards.

The Yellow Jackets will return to Institute for its final home game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 22.
