CLARION, Pa. – The West Virginia State University football team placed four players on the 2019 Don Hansen Football Gazette Super Region One Team when the list was released on Monday morning. Among them were junior fullback
Dant'e Jones (First Team Offense), junior linebacker
Dustin Crouser (Second Team Defense), senior quarterback
Austin Hensley (Third Team Offense), and senior wide receiver
Isiah Scott (Third Team Offense). All four players were 2019 All-MEC First Team selections, while Crouser and Scott also earned spots on the 2019 D2CCA Football All-Super Region 1 Second Team.
Jones earned the nod as the region's top fullback for his efficiency in critical moments. He rushed for eight touchdowns and picked up countless first downs in third-and-short situations. Despite being primarily used in short-yardage situations, he still averaged 4.7 yards per carry. Â
Crouser made the Second Team Defense after leading all of NCAA Division II in solo tackles (77) and solo tackles per game (7.0). He ranked third in total tackles (133) and his 12 tackles per game was fourth-highest in the nation.
Hensley completed 60 percent of his passes for 2,814 yards and 22 touchdowns to earn a place on the Third Team Offense. His six passing touchdowns at Fairmont State set a new school record for passing touchdowns in a single game.
Scott joined Hensley on the Third Team Offense following a 2019 season in which he eclipsed the 1,000-yards receiving mark. He ranked in the top 25 of NCAA Division II in receiving touchdowns (11), receiving yards (1,003), and receiving yards per game (91.2). He placed second in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) in both reception yards and reception touchdowns. His 91.2 yards per game was third-best in the MEC.
The late Don Hansen (Brookfield, Ill.) founded and published his own National Weekly Football Gazette that spotlighted small college football programs for three decades. Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting NCAA Division II All-Super Region teams back in 2003.
