West Virginia State University turned in an impressive performance in earning a 79-63 victory over Shepherd University at home on Thursday 02/21/19 at the Walker Convocation Center.

West Virginia State University took a 6-5 lead on Anna Ross rebound and put back at the 5:58 mark of the 1st quarter to put the Yellow Jackets in the lead for good. 

State picked up a critical win to improve to 6-19 overall and 5-14 in conference play, good for a tie with West Virginia Wesleyan for ninth place. The top 10 teams in the MEC advance to the tournament, held in Wheeling, March 6-10, 2019.

The Yellow Jackets had great balance with five players in double figures, led by Amari Gracewith 14 points, followed by Anesha Harmon (12 points), Sierra Womack (11 points), and Charity Shears and Chloe Cheresne with 10 points each. 

WVSU next plays at home on Sunday, February 24 th , 2019, against Fairmont State University (10-15, 7-13 MEC). Tip off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
