Momentum Shifts, Lead Changes, Favor WVSU as Jackets Sweep at UVa-Wise
It is a good thing WVSU basketball broadcaster Greg White only had to work the second game Wednesday night.

Otherwise even the highly articulate "Voice of the Yellow Jackets" might have run out of ways to describe the many shifts in momentum and numerous lead changes in the Jackets' sweep of the men's and women's basketball contests at UVa-Wise.

By the time the night ended the WVSU women had secured an 89-79 victory and the men had survived with a thrilling overtime 90-88 win in game two.

The women got the see-saw going in the opener.

The Cavaliers took a 20-14 lead after the opening quarter. But a 17-0 run early in the second made the count 31-22 in favor of WVSU.

That advantage was stretched to 44-34 by halftime.

Momentum changed after the break though as  Wise pulled even at 65-65 after three periods.

Though not as emphatic as their run to start the second quarter WVSU scored the first four points of the final period on buckets by Alexandra Jackson and Amari Grace and then gradually pulled away down the stretch for the win.

Anna Ross had a season high 18 points and Jordan Miller 16 to lead a  balanced Yellow Jacket attack.

                                      .............

The men's contest did not have the same big score shifts as the womens but featured many small ones throughout instead.

Each team led by six points once in the game but never by more.

The score was tied at the end if the half and it was tied at the end of regulation.

It was tied again at 83-83 with 1:15 to play.

Then freshman Glen Abram hit back-to-back baskets to give the Yellow Jackets a four point advantage.

After the Cavaliers scored to pull back within two WVSU senior Robert Fomby made the biggest play of the game.

Abram missed the first half of a one-and-one opportunity but Fomby was there to grab his 13th rebound of the game.

He was fouled on the play and the 80 percent free throw shooter calmly stepped to the line and sank two with just 10 second to play to push the WVSU lead back to four.

He sank another a few seconds later and the Cavaliers could not get a shot off in the final four seconds.

Abram finished with a career high 26 points while Fomby added 18 Points and seven assists along with those 13 rebounds.
