Hines, Yellow Jackets Steal 55-54 Win Over WV Wesleyan
The Yellow Jackets came away with a hard fought for victory Saturday afternoon at the Walker Convocation Center in Institute.

But things were not looking particularly great for the WVSU women late in Saturday's contest against visiting West Virginia Wesleyan.

They trailed for nearly half of the game with the score tied over a quarter of the time.

Sure, the Yellow Jackets had just tied the game once again at 54-54 on a pair of clutch free throws from senior Jasmine Davis with 45 seconds left.

Still, there were only seconds remaining on the clock and the Bobcats were in control of the ball.

It was time for the other WVSU senior, Aurreshae Hines, to step up.

    Literally.

As the time ticked down and Wesleyan's players looked for a potential game winning shot Hines stepped up and in front of a pass thrown to the left wing from the far side of the  top of the key and was immediately fouled with just 17.2 seconds to go.

After her first free throw attempt rimmed out she stepped back behind back away from the line, bent over, tugged her shorts, gathered herself and calmly sank the second try.

The Yellow Jackets played tight defense on the ensuing possession and a Bobcat 3-point attempt from the right wing went just long as the buzzer sounded.

Hines finished with just nine points, well below her season average of 17.1 per game, as both team's shooting seemed in tune with the cold weather outside.

WVSU players sank just 29.2 percent of their shots while the visitors did only a little better hitting 31.1 percent.

Lyrin Hatcher led the Jackets with 12 points and added a team high nine rebounds. Jordan Miller ended up with 11 points while contributed nine and Davis eight.

The Yellow Jackets are at UVa-Wise Wednesday night before returning home for Saturday's rivalry game against the University of Charleston at 2:00 p.m.
