No Need for Comeback This Time, WVSU Men Start Fast, Roll to Victory

After needing a dramatic rally to win Thursday night on the road the Yellow Jackets made sure they would not need any late game heroics Saturday in their return to the friendly confines of the Walker Convocation Center.

WVSU quickly jumped out to an 11-2 lead and never looked back in picking up a 86-68 victory over visiting West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

Pat Johnson-Agwu led five Yellow Jacket double-figure scorers with 19 points.

After that quick start WVSU pulled out to a 52-31 halftime advantage and saw its lead swell to as many as 26 points midway through the second half.

The outcome improves the Yellow Jackets' record to 8-7 overall and 6-4 in Mountain East Conference play moving them to fourth place in the league standings.

The Bobcats shot the ball well hitting exactly 50 percent from the floor and were coming off of an 84-81 win over the University of Charleston Thursday night.

But they could not match the WVSU effort Saturday.

The Jackets shot 53.6 percent and out-rebounded the visitors 38-25.

The onslaught did not slacken any when WVSU replaced its starters as the Yellow Jackets received 32 points from their bench compared to just four for Wesleyan's subs.

Other double figure scores for WVSU were Ernest Jenkins with 16, Glen Abram with 13, Langston Cooke with 11, and Jahlen Greene with 10

Johnson-Agwu and Jeremiah Moore each finished with eight rebounds.

After heading south to play at UVa-Wise Wednesday night WVSU returns home for a 4:00 p.m. Saturday match-up with rival Charleston.
