With final exams finished the Yellow Jacket basketball teams hit the road Saturday traveling to Urbana to face the Blue Knights.
The women's contest was a see-saw affair until WVSU took off on a 10-0 run to wrap-up the third quarter and then started the fourth on a 9-2 roll to take control in a 109-99 win.
"We came out ready to play today," Jacket women's coach
Charles Marshall said. "We had a ton of energy."
WVSU trailed 78-69 in the third when they began their charge.
Aurreshae Hines hit a bucket,
Jasmine Davis drained back-to-back 3-pointers, Hines another basket and the Jackets had taken a 79-78 lead after three.
Amari Grace, Hines, and Davis hit 3-pointers, Davis a pair, to continue the push as WVSU pulled out to a 91-82 lead and never looked back.
"We were led by two great performances by our seniors (Hines and Davis)," Marshall said.. "We played the way we practiced the last two days."
The Yellow Jackets had a good shooting day hitting 52 percent from the floor.
Hines finished with 28 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Davis added 26 points and seven rebounds, Grace 19 points and eight rebounds,
Denisha Bowman 18 points and nine rebounds, and
Alexandra Jackson 12 points and seven assists.

The second game found the WVSU men taking control much earlier in the game.
The Yellow Jackets led for all but 1:20 in the contest and finished with a 90-83 road victory.
WVSU gradually pulled out to a 44-35 halftime lead.
That margin grew to as many as 16 points in the second half. It bounced between seven and 16 over the last 20 minutes.
Only a late rally by Urbana made the final score as close as it was.
Pat Johnson-Agwu paced the Yellow Jackets with 26 points and nine rebounds.
Ernest Jenkins added 21 points and
Robert Fomby had a big game with 14 points, 17 rebounds, and four assists.
WVSU hit 47.5 percent from the field and finished with a 46-34 rebounding advantage.
