Bacote began his teaching and coaching career as the tennis coach at Nitro High School in 1959. Since then, he has been affiliated with the public school system in Atlanta as a teacher, acting principal and principal. He is now vice president of Lottie Watkins Enterprises in Atlanta.
At State, Bacote was captain of the tennis team when it captured the state championship in 1959. He won the Atlanta men's singles championship six times and also the Georgia state men's singles championship six times. In 1954, he won the junior doubles national title.
