A native of Orange, N.J., Nixon attended North Carolina A&T prior to transferring to State, where he was a defensive tackle on the Yellow Jackets football team. He was honorable mention All-American and All-CIAA as a tackle, and later as a defensive back, also was All-CIACC for two years. He resides in Dayton, Ohio.
