Daniels played baseball at State and led the team in stolen bases. He was a member of the 1959 WVIAC conference championship team and earned the Sweater Award in baseball from 1958 to 1961.


Daniels earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from State in 1961 and a master's degree in special education from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies in 1974.


He was an educator for 30 years, and he became the first African American head baseball coach in West Virginia. Daniels was the 1993 Kanawha Valley Coach of the Year, and he coached championship teams at Charleston High School and at Capital High from 1989 to 1995.
