Gregory D. Banks was born August 13, 1965 to Lewis and

Willnette Banks in Williamsburg, Virginia. He developed a love of sports at an early age excelling

in baseball, basketball, football and soccer. Greg was named to several youth All-Star teams where

he was recognized for not only his talent but good sportsmanship. During high school in 1982

and 1983, he progressed into an All-Conference football player as a defensive back and also in

baseball playing short stop/pitcher.

While attending Bruton High, WVSU Hall of Famer Bill Tose assisted Greg in becoming one of the

Panthers best baseball players and introduced him to “State”. When Head Baseball Coach Calvin

Bailey extended Greg an invitation to play baseball, he was elated to be a part of the WV State

(University) baseball program. In addition to playing baseball, Greg played an intricate part in

producing one of “State’s” best football teams in 1987, with a record of 8-1-1.

After obtaining a B.S in Communications, Greg was employed by the U.S. Government, Pentagon

Washington DC., in the Information Technology fi eld. However, his love for sports has never

faded. Greg coached numerous high school baseball and football teams. He is currently involved

in coaching his 3 sons in various sports. Greg says of his time at WVSU, “My experience at WVSU

changed my life. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to meet all the wonderful students,

faculty and staff at “State” that helped shape and form my life forever.”

Greg is employed by B&T and is the treasurer for the Hampton Roads Alumni Chapter. His love for

WVSU and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., is second to none. He and his wife Tara have 5 children:

Torrie, Angel, Joshua and twins Justin and Jordan. Greg also has a special niece, Nyjah. In his spare

time he loves to fi sh, travel, attend sporting events but, more importantly spend time with his family.
