Ross, who later lived in Columbus, Ohio, was born in Clarksburg and played both football and basketball as a Yellow Jacket. In football, he was selected to the Abbott Monthly Negro All America team.
First an elected member of the Ohio Employment Commission, he later became the agency's executive director.
