Lee was a member of the football and track teams. In football, he rushed for 2,950 yards and was All-WVIAC Conference.

In 1973, he was the assistant offensive receiver coach at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio and was head track coach at CSU for three years. After leaving CSU in 1976, he returned to be the head coach of football and track at Dunbar Junior High School and taught history for 13 years.
