Longtime West Virginia State College coach Chester A. "Art'' Burris of Institute died Monday at St. Francis Hospital after a long illness. He was 74.
Burris coached at W.Va. State for 35 years, serving as head coach for the basketball, football, swimming, golf, tennis and track teams. He was inducted into the college's Sports Hall of Fame in 1980.
He taught kinesiology, physiology, physical and health education, recreation, first aid and water safety at the college from 1950 to 1985.
