Dr. Byrd was the "voice of the Yellow Jackets" for many years in football and basketball. As a longtime faculty member and administrator of State, he also initiated efforts to establish the Department of Communications and the Educational Network satellite uplink and downlink facility. Byrd was associated with State for 57 years.
