Charles “Pat” Clark, the son of Carlos and Vivian Clark of Yawkey, Wet Virginia, entered West Virginia State University in the fall of 1984. Pat is a graduate of Duval High School in Griffithsville, WV, where he participated in football, track & field, baseball, and basketball. He was an All-State and All-Conference linebacker-fullback in football and qualified for the state track meet in the 100 yard dash. Pat was listed in the Street & Smiths All-American magazine for his performance in high school and as a top college prospect in football. He was recruited by West Virginia University, Virginia Tech, and a number of other Division I universities, but he accepted the opportunity to play football for the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets.
Pat was an All-Conference linebacker in the WVIAC and a standout of the 1984 WVSC football team, a team that is referred to frequently as one the best in the history of WV State football. He was a 1988 selection to Who’s Who among Students in American Universities & Colleges and he was also recognized by the local “W” Club for his athletic achievements in football. He led the WV Conference with a 521 career tackles and set a WVSC individual tackling record. Pat was named the Best Defensive Player in 1987 in the WVIAC and was the leading tackler for the Conference for 4 straight years.
A four-year starter and four-year captain of the team, Pat graduated with a B.S. in Health, Safety, and Physical Education in 1988. He went on to Marshall University where he received his M.S. in Safety Management in 1990. His time away from work is spent coaching high school football and youth sports.
Pat resides in Scott Depot, WV with his wife Robin, and sons Joshua (16) and Jordan (12).
